Our Trash, Another's Treasure

Today, our family participated in a community-wide yard sale in order to raise funds for Kenya.  This was not originally the purpose (we just had some misc items to get rid of…) but my friend suggested that I use this opportunity to fundraise.  So, I posted a Face-book message to local friends and asked people to bring their “spring-cleaning junk” to our house on Friday night, so that we could try and sell things on Saturday morning from 8-1pm.

And, sure enough, people brought lots of stuff!  Brett’s girlfriends–Lydia, Kristen, and Sylvie–even made baked goods to sell…all of the proceeds went towards the total $18K for my year ahead at RVA, and amazingly, we made over $800 today!  What a surprise and blessing!  Our trash, another’s treasure.  Yard Sales are usually hit or miss, and I did not expect to make much. But, I said a special prayer, and God says that when we knock, He opens the door.  So, I think the Lord must have drawn people to 103 Pembrooke View Lane today in a unique way.

And what better way to spend the post-yard-sale afternoon than with a spontaneous visit from Jenni, Jade, and Carson, who brought his special McDonald’s treat over to eat and hang out for a few hours with “Dutch”?
