Back on the Blogger’s Block

Well, here I am blogging again.

I don’t really know what happened.  I just sort of took a break from making consistent blog posts, and before I knew it, several weeks had passed.

I suppose that on a sub-conscious level, I avoided it.  Not because I don’t like to write, or have things to say.  Oftentimes, I have TOO much to say for my own good.  But, I guess I have needed time to think, reflect, and ponder what exactly I am keeping a blog FOR…

When I was in Africa last year, it was impossible NOT to blog.  Every day was inspiring; everything was new; life was original in every sense of the word.  There was plenty of fresh flavors in life.

But, somehow, my life now can often seem…well, mundane.  After all, what kind of cool stories come out of riding on the DC Metro 10 hours a week?  When life is mostly made up of sleeping, eating, working, exercising, a bit of playing, reading, praying, and fellowshipping in any given 24 hours, there is a cyclical motion to it all that just keeps going round and round and round.  Plus, part of my job is writing.  So, by the time I get home, the last thing I want to do sometimes is sit back down again at my computer!

But, with all that said…I’ve decided to keep blogging…about life, recipes, my latest poetry, funny stories, travels, and spiritual reflections.

But, the thing I am most excited to tell you about is that I have plans this summer to finally get around to making my Africa photo album, which I’ve neglected for 9 months to complete.  It’s probably because I am facing going through 5,000+ photo’s. (OK, it’s also because I’ve just been plain lazy.)

This photo album will be more than a bunch of pictures thrown together.

It will be a photo journal, a memoir of sorts, that incorporates pictures, poems, people, and places.  It will tell the story through words and faces.  It will show you the thoughts and memories I wrote down throughout the year.  And, it will attempt to bring glory to the One who called me there in the first place.

My hope in all of this is that people will be able to buy this album, with proceeds going towards my dear Kenyan friend, Emily Maingi, who one day dreams of opening up her own business in Kijabe, Kenya.  She is an amazing woman of God, and her two daughters are blessed to have such a faith-filled woman as their mother.  And, I am blessed to call her my friend.

In the meantime, normal life keeps rolling.
